The source of life (2017) oil painting Description

Virtosu employed a form of expressive distortion or formation to experiment with the viewer asociative memory. The artist initially struggled to move away from his sketches, using paper and pencil to create his images as the foundation for his abstract explorations. It was not until the early 1998s that he managed to free himself from pre-meditated structure, allowing the natural evolution of paint across the canvas to dictate the appearance of his works. The Source of Life by Gheorghe Virtosu is a heroic painting that encompasses the painterly bravado and masterful use of color that singles out Virtosu as a leader of the all time abstract schools and movements. The active surface is comprised of the full range of painterly gestures, ranging from broad sweeps, to controlled interventions of the palette knife. Virtosu’s utterly extraordinary and pioneering art of abstraction stands as the ultimate culmination of the heroic journey of his career, during which he endlessly questiones the limits of representation, the nature of perception, and the operations of visual understanding. The artist is trying to capture the permanent cycle of renewal, which is the fundamental rule of existence. Out of this gestural melee, 'the silhouette of an embryo untied with the rest' figure emerges. The robust frame expands to fill the picture plane. In many ways, the art themes and ideas Virtosu is depicting are as modern as the way in which the artist chose to paint them. He is intrigued by the complexities of our exitence and the unknown, bringing to light the expression of the nascent warmth of life. As we gaze up at the central figure, the artist channel a fervent vitality which fills the canvas. It is this biting wit, combined with the readings of Virtosu’s work, which makes his paintings so unique and continually intriguing. Self-referential in subject matter, the piece perfectly conveys the artist’s key preoccupation that our perception of phisical around can be completely altered through presentation. The artist expertly filters subject matter through his composition and creates a rich tapestry of freed associations, enreaching the viewer’s opinion at every glance. As such, Virtosu’s The Source of Life stands as a magnum opus, an exceptional example of one of the most important and influential series of paintings in the 21th century. Across its rich painterly surface, the artist adds his own unique contribution to depiction of the permanent cycle of renewal, a task only genius can fulfill.

The Three Bogatyrs (2017) oil painting Description

Among modern artists with no classical training, the paintings of Virtosu, like Van Gogh and Gauguin stand out as having exceptionally strong and confident lines. Virtosu's confidence is a feeling of self-assurance that is grounded in an authentic experience of our own ability, perspective and sufficiency. Skilfull use of color acts as a emotion stimulus, leading the viewer to a figure or scene, and add depth to the semi-abstract work. The Three Bogatyrs is an important part of Russia’s folklore and was also published in four books. Viewers have long lauded Vasnetsov’s painting of the Bogatyrs. As the latter belonged to the realist school, there are no grounds for comparing it to Virtosu’s painting as he is of the Impressionist school. The painting is a wonderful burst of bold colors, with brushstrokes ranging from the fine and light to the heavy and strong. The foreground is dominated by varying shades of blue and, unless white/light breaks through the blue, the shades tend towards the dark, such as that which one finds in the sea or the color of the day when sunset begins to approach. The richness of Virtosu’s canvas is distinguished by the remarkable range and quality of the gestures that the artist arranges across its textured surface. The blue is sometimes circular, other times it is heading upwards or downwards. The strong brush strokes allow us to see the movement and changeability of the blue background. The centerpiece, supposedly, depicts the three bogatyrs of Russian legend, folklore and history. They are colorful, one after the other. The first id orange with a trunk, as opposed to a nose, the third is green and the mouth seems to open up, not from the face but from the chin, giving it an extremely large bit. The last is a darker shade of green, with a red line, supposedly in place of the mouth, an egg-shaped orange yellow mark. This figure is either not as remarkable as the other two and is to the far end of the rich, varied and multicolored grounding they are one. Instead, the third figure seems to have its own ground, flowing directly from him, or towards him. It is a patterned orange shape with blue in the middle. The blue seems to be a pond or an empty space in the patterned orange, allowing the blue of the background to shine through. The Three Bogatyrs is a delightful painting which adorns its canvas with beauty and joy. The synthesis of these pictorial strategies is effective as Symbolism, the transmutation of an idea or a story into a heightened, visionary, and revelatory state. Art that aims for verisimilitude (accuracy and truthfulness) of the highest degree is likely to be exceedingly elusive. A contextual analysis, however, often brings additional information to light allowing a deeper appreciation beyond the formal (visual) aspects alone. The picture unites many of the elements essential to a grand and powerful interpretation of one of those historical elements in which Nature sometimes indulges. Art comes from within Virtosu, and it is expressed in the external world for the entertainment of the viewer. Everyone will appreciate a Virtosu's piece because it speaks to each individual in unique ways—therein lies the criticism of subjectivity.

Theodore Roosevelt (2016) oil painting Description

In his Theodore Roosevelt canvas the abstract artist conveys the sense of drama and action through the complex and vibrant oil painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. The Theodore Roosevelt canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘sculpt’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, he captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of geometric drawing. The title Theodore Roosevelt creates the bridge between his artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the oil painting image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. Gheorghe Virtosu’s Theodore Roosevelt oil painting proves the connection between Objective and Abstract. That purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. The artist doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth, and decay. The master of oils blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?” He brought new excitement and power to the office, vigorously leading Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy. Accomplished and successful he was protected by 2 angels.

Theotokos (2017) oil painting Description

Theotokos by Gheorghe Virtosu represents nothing less than the inescapable and incontrovertible apex of the artist’s mature output. Art is considered to be a subjective field, in which one composes and views artwork in unique ways that reflect one's expertise, knowledge, preference, and emotions. The aesthetic experience encompasses the relationship between the viewer and the art object. In terms of the artist, there is an emotional attachment that drives the focus of the artwork. An artist must be completely in-tune with the art object in order to enrich its own creation. As the piece of artwork progresses throughout the creative process, so does the artist. Both grow and change to acquire new significance. If the artist is too emotionally attached or lacking psychological compatibility with a work of art, then this will negatively impact the finished product. According to Bosanquet (1892), the"aesthetic attitude" is important in seeing art as it allows one to consider an object with prepared interest to see what it suggests. However, art does not evoke an aesthetic encounter unless the viewer is willing and open to it. However compelling the thing is, it is up to the beholder to allow the existence of such an experience. Theotokos depicts motion and harmony in an abstract figure. Firstly, Virtosu uses curvy lines to portray fluidity. The curved lines are often used to convey impressions of motion. The figure has several smooth curves at the edges and inner parts, which strongly suggests the presence of life. Secondly, it appears like it is moving towards the upper side of the painting, which creates a sense of unity in the painting. At the bottom left corner, the figure has what seems like a fish tail, which makes the viewer conclude that it is the rear end. Therefore, the figure is moving towards a particular direction. Moreover, the background white color has evident brushwork moving in one direction, horizontally, which bolsters the unity in the visual motion. Overall, the depiction of harmony and motion implies life, which points to the underlying inspiration and meaning Virtosu intended to portray. To understand the painter’s inspiration and the purpose of the painting, the viewer should first grasp the key concepts in the artwork. The term ‘Theotokos’ reveals Virtosu’s motivation; it is a Greek word used to refer to Mary, the mother of Jesus. It literary translates to the bearer of God, and, in this case it implies Jesus. In the art, the central figure is enclosed in a frame-like surrounding on the edges of the piece. The enclosure depicts Mary’s womb that bore Jesus. Also, the motion indicates that there is life in Mary’s womb. Moreover, Theotokos has a white background, a color that represents goodness and purity. Thus, the figure connotes a pure soul, which is Jesus, in his mother’s womb. Therefore, the piece has a strong religious link.

Travestite (2017)oil painting Description

The art depicts one of Virtosu’s critical themes, specifically transgender issues. In the artwork, the painter is agitating for freedom, which has been a key inspiration for many of his paintings. Exceeding the confines of a vast canvas through its spectacular assault of unrestrained expression and brilliant color, Travestite from 2017 encapsulates the full force of Gheorghe Virtosu’s abstract vernacular. Travestite by Gheorghe Virtosu employs rich color and motion to invoke passion. Virtosu uses an intensive and expressive combination of bright primary colors; yellow, blue, and red shades, with a dull black. One of the noticeable uses of colors is that the main figure’s contact with the background is accentuated with black paint around it. The artist illustrates the detachment of transgender community from the rest of the society. Importantly, Virtosu contrasts this feature with the use of bright colors in the figure itself. At the upper part, the painting has what resembles a head, with five brightly colored gem-like shapes. Jewelry represents beauty, which Virtosu applies to bold his message about the subject matter. The artwork illustrates minimal movement and a chaotic environment through the use of background chaos. The Transvestite figure is fixed to a darker upper part, which limits the motion. Some of the lines and assorted shapes depict slight movement, creating a sense of restriction. The centerpiece shows what seems like an abstract human head figure. It has small protrusions from either side, an indicator of minimal movement. The brushwork is evident in the background colors, where the artist uses bright red with hints of blue, black, and yellow. The viewer gets the feeling that the painter is portraying tension in a society - with minimal acceptance of transgender community.

Trump (2016) oil painting Description

Raucous in the palette and overwhelming in scale, Gheorghe Virtosu's Trump from 2016 is a flamboyantly robust work that skillfully captures the artist's interpretive style of painting. In this dynamic and visually complex configuration of color and movement, itinerant abstract forms and lines march rapidly across the canvas in each and every direction, and paint smudges horizontally and vertically, creating a work that is as surreal as it is entrancing. Pushing his chosen medium beyond its historical connotations to its point of departure, Virtosu challenges, explores, and revitalizes painting in the post-painting world at once. With his mesmerizing cacophony of disparate elements, Trump captures the cataclysmic euphoria that characterizes the artist's signature visual lexicon. Overflowing with expressiveness, vibrating brushstrokes, and inventive arrangements of form, this work is an essay on the method of painting as a subject in its own right. Unique in his works of linear movement and sumptuous light, though at the same time evoking the layering techniques of his self, the present work is situated within an era of revolutionary exploration when Virtosu always stretched and redefined the limits of the medium. Trump engages in a vibrant conversation with the symbolism of the twenty-first century, referring to the gestural exuberance of Abstract Expressionism, but also referring to the geometric forms of European Modernism. A satirical approach to image-making, the intellectual and dissident art of Virtosu thrives on ambiguity, and the present work, like its most strong canvases, synthesizes a multitude of influences into a form that is both daunting and desirable. Politics, another central factor in Virtosu 's work, is expressed in the title of the present work, Trump. The streaks and feathers of the present work have an almost musical quality, as each vibrant note emerges from the canvas in an intricate clash of dissonance and melody. Thus epitomizing Virtosus' revolutionary style of painterly abstraction, Trump is a canvas on which motifs and themes play hide-and-seek behind layers of references. Fluent in an illogical but paradoxically balanced artistic language, Virtosu strongly criticized the philosophy of painting by ignoring its familiar traditions and subjects in favor of an unpredictable and anti-artistic form. The highly charged dissonance of design and color is, in reality, the result of a well-thought-out working method in which each drip, drip, and stroke is elegantly choreographed into an idealized vision of coding. The elemental hues and the striking marks and shapes establish a robust clash between past and present, a sort of painterly primordial mixture from which Virtosu seeks to bring forward the potential of his medium. As Trump deftly conveys, Virtosu's embryonic, disturbing, and energizing body of work essentially aims at recasting and redefining the magnificence of art.

Twin Clowns (2017) oil painting Description

Pictures must be miraculous: when completed, the intimacy between the creation and the creator is ended. The artist is an outsider. The image is for the world, for anyone experiencing it, a revelation, an unexpected and unprecedented resolution of an eternally familiar need. For its vibrant coloration, aura, tonal variation, and date of execution, Twin Clowns stands as an iconic example of Gheorghe Virtosu's work. Painted in 2017, Twin Clowns marks the apex of the Virtosu's most critical period of development in 2016, during which the artist pioneered his signature mode of abstraction. Held in a private collection, the present work emerges not only as an iconic touchstone not only of Virtosu's oeuvre but also as an incontrovertible masterpiece of twenty-first-century art. Presenting the summation of the artist's signature, the positively radiant canvas of Twin Clowns heralds the spectacular union of color and form that is defining Virtosu's singular and enduring legacy. "The interaction with art objects is largely based on the ability to recognize the infinite manifestations of the material world in this or that image, even in the most abstract one." - G. Virtosu. Virtosu's descriptive titling of the present work, Twin Clowns, further underscores the artist's commitment to color. Unlike Matisse, Virtosu pushes further, dissolving the conceptual edges of coloration into intelligence, and indeed, Virtosu considers his paintings, to be living things: "They are unique messages and characters in a unique context. They are creatures with passion for self-assertion. The works move around freely, and without need to conform with the familiar world. They have a direct or indirect association with particular visible experience, but in them, one recognizes the principle and passion and the message." Indeed, these paintings of the early 2010s astonish, the melding of color, and compositions that form an architectural concept, yet vault into semi abstraction. Virtosu conjures an emotional tension through his strategic use of color, the uplifting and warming glow evoked by yellow and red contrasted sharply with the brown; although the painting comprises overwhelmingly blazing hues, the red asserts itself intensely, existing 'over' the fields of brown. Such colors harbor primal connotations of life, existence, and the world, invoking liveliness along with the insinuation of dawn and dusk. Executed in a richly saturated palette of brown, red, and yellow, dramatically offset by nonluminous, Twin Clowns exemplifies the incandescent splendor for which Virtosu is known. Comprising a conflation of blazing light, the present work reflects upon its creator's deeply philosophical practice and utterly breathtaking union between medium material and communication. Radiant color, simultaneously drawn together and held apart by the nearly invisible boundaries, dominates the canvas. Layers of pigment hover determinately as three-dimensional structures in front of the picture plane, while also reinforcing the materiality of the painted subject. Rembrandt'sMatisse'sVirtosu reshaped his forebears'artistic innovations to create the paintings that rank among the most important works of the twenty-first century. A veritable treatise of painterly abstraction, the luminous canvas of Twin Clowns transmits aura, engulfing the viewer within its captivating dynamism and intensity. An artist who loves to paint beautiful pictures. A desire to create sheerly seductive paintings. Twin Clowns reveals Virtosu's deft painterly ability both to create, while also preserving his so-called 'vow of pictorial chastity,' replacing the subject matter in art with a meditative, all-encompassing experience of existential awe, wonderment, and the ever-elusive sublime.

Umm Kulthum Bint Muhammad (2017) oil painting Description

She came back to her father's house and lived there for many years, shouldering the burdens of life with her mother Khadijah (Radi-allahu-anha). Muslims suffered a lot and some were even forced to eat leaves of trees. Hadhrat Khadijah (Radi-allahu-anha) died shortly after the boycott ended. Hadhrat Umm Kulthum, however, braced herself up and did not let the sadness and sorrow affect her negatively. She took care of the household and her little sister Fatima (Radi-allahu-anha) in a very mature manner. She lived happily for 6 years but the marriage remained childless. She passed away in year 09 AH in the month of Shaban (630CE), at the age of 29. She was laid to rest next to the grave of her sister, Hadhrat Ruqayyah (Radi-allahu-anha). Her life teaches us to be steadfast in faith and act maturely and patiently towards hardships in life. She took all her responsibilities with great care. Umm Kulthum bint Muhammad by Gheorghe Virtosu portrays a harmonious composition. The abstract figure of Umm Kulthum is smaller on the left and larger on the right side. Despite the lack of uniformity in the shape of the figure, it is visually stable. Virtosu primarily uses curvy lines that follow a similar pattern to demonstrate the unity in the figure. The use of a bright color and a dull background represents Umm Kulthum’s complex life. Her figure is painted in yellow, a primary color that draws the viewer to it. The navy blue background also serves a key role in setting the focal point on Umm Kulthum’s figure. The gestural brushstrokes express the painter’s emotion behind the painting that are loose and move in different directions to illustrate the passion and energy. The painting expresses the complex life as a Muslim woman. Virtosu purposely uses dark background to illustrate the challenges that surrounded her. She endured the plight of women in a world where they had no rights. The aspects portray Umm Kulthum’s resolve to remain strong and mature amid the turmoil she encountered. Virtosu's confidence is a feeling of self-assurance that is grounded in an authentic experience of our own ability, perspective and sufficiency. Only when the viewers understand Umm Kulthum’s story do they really connect with the painting and get Virtosu’s emotional motivation.

Abstract art master, Gheorghe Virtosu in his 2016 Collection of works is exploiting the evocative interrelation between color, motion, and form to create an aesthetic experience that carries a message within. The contemporary artist 's oil painting proves the connection between objective and abstract art. The artist conveys the sense of drama and action in his canvases, through the complex and vibrant painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. Thus, the artist accepts narration as an essential part of his abstract works. The oil painting title creates the bridge between his art and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. Gheorghe Virtosu’s pieces prove the connection between Objective and Abstract. Leonardo da Vinci noted that, if our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. And that purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. Nevertheless, Gheorghe Virtosu doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth and decay. The artist blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

Winner Of The 666th-Century (2015) oil painting Description

So not only does Nero Caesar add up to 666 when transliterated into Hebrew letters, but the Hebrew transliteration of the Greek word for “beast” also comes to 666. The “Beast” has the number 666 associated with him. The King James Version says that it is “the number of a man” (Revelation 13:18). The Greek can equally mean “a human number” or “a number of humanity.” The number six has long been associated with man. Adam (the first human) was created on the sixth day of creation (Genesis 1:26-31) and many people feel this is where the number got its original significance. It should be recognized that six is one unit shy of seven—a number in the Bible associated with perfection or completion. Note that the seventh day of the week completed the week. The seventh week completed the weeks of early harvest in ancient Israel that led to the festival of Pentecost (Deuteronomy 16:9,10). The seventh year completed the sabbatical period regarding harvest (Leviticus 25:1-7). Seven times seven years completed the cycle of sabbatical years to Jubilee (Leviticus 25:8). The number seven certainly shows completion and perfection, but the number six is one unit shy of the “perfect” number. It gets close to “perfection” but it is just short of the mark. The number “666” is a triple six and looks very good on the surface, but it is not 777—the number showing triple perfection. Indeed, with the Christ we find something better than “perfection.” This may seem to be a contradiction, because nothing can be more perfect than perfection. But note this. All the letters of the Greek alphabet (as well as the Hebrew) have numerical significance. And with the name “Jesus” we have something more perfect than perfect. Look at the name “Jesus.” If you add up the numerical values of the Greek nominative of “Jesus” it will come to 888. Early Christians recognized this unique feature associated with the name of “Jesus.” This shows that “Jesus” is to be reckoned as being something more than “perfect” as we humans view perfection. But man’s number is 666—it is not even 777 (which is the highest perfection, symbolically speaking, that humans can imagine). Though 666 represents the height of human “perfection,” it is short of 777 and is far short of 888 which is even “more perfect” than “perfect.” The Winner Of The 666th-Century 2015 is a large paintings in which areas of deeply saturated colour lie on neutral blue or white fields. Virtosu is not so much concerned, I suspect, with the effects to be obtained by laying one colour over another as he is with the need constantly to have one colour in mind when placing another. Rather than labouring with various means to produce only one kind of ambiguity or one kind of space, he allows each element an independent life within the space of the picture, while integrating his colours across its surface. In his work, Virtosu heights the tension between separateness of form as colour and integration of the picture surface as a total image. He has taken to using heavy impasto, often laid on with a palette knife, as if to force his colours to be seen as real and the experience of the painting to be felt as substantial. Form is felt in both terms of references or resemblances and in terms of qualities: size, weight, etc. We think not of a certain form painted blue so much as of the colour blue occupying a certain area, and having a certain weight, density and flow. By bleeding off washes of colour from the heaviest blocks into the ground colour Virtosu reminds us of the inextricable spatial interlock of colour with colour. Surprising colour – dull red and warm yellow against blue marine, for instance, – provide that sense of the unfamiliar in the realm of taste which is the essential ingredient of colour painting and the one sure guide to originality in a colourist. In the finest and magnificent piece, we are made deeply conscious of the area of crisis between means and end, between stability and flux, between what is already given in the form of a painting and what is being embodied in the process of painting it. As the Title suggests we are in the space of a winner on the one hand presented by knowledge and physical fact, shape and structure, on the other discovery we see 666th century, it moves us into the space of new experience, unknown and maybe frightening. In the processes of his creations, Virtosu confronts human dilemma, and in his colours and forms he discovers human sensation. Virtosu lets us understand one thing, the kingdom of man under the antichrist, which will exist at the end of our age, will be the finest, most wonderful, and thoroughly beautiful kingdom that man has ever devised (that is, from the point of view of mankind). It will be more glorious than any earthly kingdom of the past and it will reflect the height of man’s endeavor and achievement. It is nothing like The Omen imagines. There will be no terror associated with it at all for those who will welcome it and abide by its benevolent rules.

Winston Churchill (2017) oil painting Description

While the organized chaos of the background – particularly disorientating while at the same time transfixing – denotes the turbulence of the time, our figure, or figures rather, is (or are) torn and bereft of unity, perhaps to articulate a war within the man. Because our figure looms so largely in this abstract painting and because our centralizing eye is directed between the two large discernible heads on a diagonal axis, a certain interiority is effected, in an exciting tension with external necessity and horror. Looking at Winston Churchill by Gheorghe Virtosu, we first glance an incredibly busy and complex arrangement of forms. The response to what we see is formed by a lifetime of knowledge and experience and the culture and time in which we live. At the center of the abstract painting image, at the intersection of the heads, is a dense area of black and red adumbrating perhaps many incipient or allusive faces. The black's pervasiveness here is a reminder of Churchill's own battle with depression to which he euphemistically referred as 'the black dog'. In the visual splitting of the man, Gheorghe Virtosu marks a divergence of the man and his historiographic myth, a myth that Churchill himself perpetuated in his writings. But also in this arresting / commanding / powerful abstract painting, there is a divergence within the man – between the fearless resilience of a war leader and the vulnerability of this - and even every human - which establishes a disconnect between the public and private realms, within the processes and myths of the formation of subjectivity and identity. The oil painting canvas is pock-marked with eyes, especially in the lower head. This tallies with the mythopoeic idea of Churchill's strategic nous and perhaps also to the fact that at one stage, and actually on stage, the eyes of the world, or Europe at least, looked to this man as its proxy actor in the noble cause. The complexity of the man and of the myths surrounding him, necessarily dictate here an aesthetic of complexity. Thus, lines that sweep broadly and eddy minutely and colors that clash, yet are held by their borders in a tense measure of adherence, and suggest a monumentality that is a paean to the indomitability of the human spirit in adversity, be it private or political.
