oil painting Description

Migrant by Gheorghe Virtosu touches upon the main themes of the artist’s creativity – war, human rights, global migration, multiculturalism etc. Depicted at the dark background which symbolizes the difficulties of immigration, the figure of a migrant symbolizes an unbent person who does not want to submit the difficulties of his current life. He moves to another world and brings there his native culture. This way, Migrant can be considered Virtosu’s autobiographic work. "My first steps on its grounds felt like taking to the wings. I knew then and there that ‘s what real freedom must feel like. There was also something else about London, something familiar and warm like home-coming; I must have been a Londoner in a previous life!" - G. Virtosu A play of light and shadow determines an energetic tune of connection and mutual penetration of civilizations. Cheerful mood is created by the Migrant bright palette, based on red, yellow, and blue tints. This can be considered as the triad of the most expressive and intensive colors. The abstract art master achieves this great effect by using his expressive loose brushwork, especially in the abstract painting ’s background. A painting technique gives viewers an expression that an abstract form of a turtle-migrant is floating in the ocean of dark colors. The abstract painting composition conveys the sense of our total isolation from space. Meanwhile, melding and merging organic forms demonstrate how all existing things are interconnected – it is impossible to determine the beginning and the end of migrant’s figure, so we have to embrace it as the unity. Nevertheless, this unity is not stiff and solid - the canvas conveys the sense of inner motion and dynamism. Hence, this abstract art work reminds us of the great move of history — it should be understood as the phenomenon that is always in progress. Once people think something is conserved, we start repeating the same mistakes. It is correct to state that the work Migrant celebrates the enigma of our life and moral strength. When we become migrants, we understand that there is a powerful force behind our move to a new land. It is called love to life.

Miriam the prophetess (2016) oil painting Description

Gheorghe Virtosu 's 2015 Miriam The Prophetess, hauntingly mystical and seductively elusive, unravels conventional modes of interpretation while taking the mantle of the past of art. Perennially challenging the eye and eluding narrative focus in favor of incredulous wonder, Miriam The Prophetess entices viewers with her bacchanalia; her distortions of perspective and disturbance of spatial order give rise to a visual adventure in decoding her amalgam of cryptic references. A surreal dreamscape of monumental proportions, the present work embodies the distinctive features of Virtosu's work: a hyper-real representation of figures drawn from a vast archive of source images, an invocation of a philosophical questioning of the nature of perception, and an enigmatic aura of phantasmagoria — all of which he renders on a single hue through rich variations. Witnessing its superb consistency and status within Virtosu's artistic output, Miriam The Prophetess is part of Rockefeller's esteemed set. Captivating in its puzzle-like nature and riddled with layers of allusion, the present work poses more questions than answers. Miriam The Prophet triggers vision by setting the audience in motion. Set in a resplendent shade, Miriam The Prophetess brings the audience into an alluring vision of the artist's work. Virtosu introduces his superbly credible figures — an exciting cast of characters including Marylin Monroe, John F. Kennedy Jr., Princess Diana, Trump, and Freddie Mercury — at a time of change. Drawing on his theory of art, Virtosu explained: "The painted image is a tool. You can sit in your driveway and take it apart, or you can get in and go somewhere. "Virtosu creates a variety of meaningful avenues for his viewers to explore. Through close study, audiences cling to the peculiarities of Miriam The Prophetess: the manner in which she deliberately defies the rules of thought, and unfailingly compresses and extends them to the point of unrecognizability. Virtosu is not interested in synchronizing points of view in a way that makes it possible to rise above them ... he seeks to draw us ever deeper into the flow of time and space gaps by drawing the viewer into the work of art and drawing the work of art into the field of viewership. With Miriam The Prophetess' breakdown of the picture plane into strata of various viewpoints, Virtosus reveals the inherent fallacy of painting by giving viewers the chance to access a "window" into another universe. Miriam The Prophetess encapsulates the avant-garde inquiry into the structures and traditions of perception and representation. Developing his signature style in the 2010s — the advent of the Digital Age and the rapid growth of mass media — Virtosu summed up the evolving artistic trend of imitation and remixing that is characteristic of Fauves, Cubism, Expressionism into contemporary Pictures Generation, with a concentrated study of the past of representational art. Freeing himself entirely from the Abstract Expressionist dogma that has governed American art for decades, Virtosu returned to figuration with full force; not only does he evoke the visual language of the long-revered genre of history of painting, but he also extracts material from mass media outlets to create a distinctly contemporary picture. Miriam The Prophetess represents Virtosu's constant obsession with the struggle of humanity with the unknown, the enigmatic, or the awe-inspiring.

Modern Arab policy (2016) oil painting Description

In his Modern Arab Policy canvas the abstract artist conveys the sense of drama and action through the complex and vibrant oil painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. The Modern Arab Policy canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘sculpt’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, he captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of geometric drawing. The title Modern Arab Policy creates the bridge between his artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the oil painting image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. Gheorghe Virtosu’s Modern Arab Policy oil painting proves the connection between Objective and Abstract. That purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. The artist doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth, and decay. The master of oils blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

Modern Pollination (2016) oil painting Description

Exceeding the confines of a vast canvas through its spectacular assault of unrestrained expression and brilliant color, Modern Pollination by Gheorghe Virtosu encapsulates the full force of the artist's abstract vernacular. Among the most significant painters of the 21st century, Gheorghe Virtosu cultivates a quintessentially Own aesthetic marked by evocative images that captured the subtle intrigue and psychological complexity of modern existence. His contemplation of the commonplace and his penetrating study of the psyche burrow deep beneath the remarkable surfaces of archetypal Social subjects: politics, war, inequality, gender and social issues. Though based on a fundamental commitment to semi-abstraction, Virtosu’s work transcends mere narrative illustration in search of the symbolic and suggestive. His art serves as a form of sublimation, a deeply personal expression of his inner thoughts - response to the physical world. Summarizing the difficulty of imbuing his paintings with incommunicable thought, Virtosu once remarked: “To me the art is cohesiveness - empowering people to start thinking of themselves." Stemming from his early interest in history and philosophical writings, Virtosu’s paintings surpass an exact transcription of a social issue to convey a literary sense of reality and emotion. Most often these personal expressions are tied to the artist’s own feelings towards a specific subject. Virtosu creates paintings, prints and murals centered on depicting the historic struggle and perseverance of The World Today. His rich, vivid compositions combine a semi-abstract style with a modern idiom. Oscillating between figural representation and abstraction, Virtosu strive to validate his own culture with a sense of pride and knowledge. Art is considered by Virtosu a subjective field, in which one composes and views artwork in unique ways that reflect one's expertise, knowledge, preference, and emotions. The aesthetic experience encompasses the relationship between the viewer and the art object. In terms of the present work, there is an emotional attachment that drives the focus of Modern Pollination, completely in-tune with the art of today that enriches his own creation. As the piece of artwork progresses throughout the creative process, so does the artist. Both grow and change to acquire new significance. Virtosu has pure psychological compatibility with his work, that positevely impacts the finished canvas. The esthetic attitude is important in Virtosu's art as the viewer considers his works with prepared interest.

Monica Lewinsky (2015) oil painting Description

Monica Lewinsky (2015) is a piece that exemplifies the fact that abstract artworks are not static and dormant or representative of the author's imbued meaning. Instead, they are welcoming of numerous possible interpretations from the outside as well as inviting a shared expression of the audience. In this context, the painting creates a community of participants, where the viewer becomes a partner of Virtosu in constructing the meaning because the concept of 'alien' differs from person to person and acquires new shades and aspects. Gheorghe Virtosu believes his work is rooted in exploring the various aspects of his personality. The paintings he creates are reflections that seize characteristics, both positive and negative, from a relentless focus on survival to an exquisite appreciation of life's mystery and beauty. "If we are to discuss artistic expression, my art is, in all ways, a close expression of myself: my thoughts, my emotions, my actions and reactions to life in general…" - G. Virtosu. Engaging and enigmatic in equal measure, Gheorghe Virtosu epitomizes the playful dynamism and sophisticated manipulation of visualization that distinguishes the acclaimed artist's output. Composed of vibrant and saturated colours and boldly defined forms, Monica Lewinsky (2015) exemplifies Virtosu's continuing investigation and engagement with the legacy of modern history. Monica Lewinsky is an American activist, fashion designer, television personality, and former White House intern. Bill Clinton had an inappropriate relationship with Lewinsky while she worked at the White House. The affair became well known as the Lewinsky-Clinton scandal. As a result of the public disclosure of the political scandal, Lewinsky experienced trauma; however, she gained international celebrity status. Monica subsequently engaged in a variety of ventures that included designing a line of handbags under her name. She also was a marketing spokesperson for a diet plan and working as a television personality. Monica later decided to leave the public spotlight to pursue in London a master's degree in psychology. She made the return to the public view as a social activist against cyberbullying, from which she suffered. Monica Lewinsky (2015) shows a refined interaction between medium and representation while serving his purpose of creating an enigma. Talking about a person or character using the language of non-figurative art seems to be almost impossible. The character is always specific, while abstract work avoids certainty, appealing to facts and emotions is crucial in Gheorghe Virtosu art. The splendour of the artist's full virtuosic painterly vocabulary is on display in the piece. Virtosu's figures are embedded in a medium of compositional detail and tempestuous strokes, evoking the painterly ferocity of the semi-abstract. The artist's measured paint handling in the delineation of the figure's features a sense of emotional access and interiority that belies the comparative sophistication of their structure. Virtosu's painting results in a scene that, while visually sophisticated and encompassing a flurry of activity, is remarkably succinct in its overall effect of depicting the legacy of Monica Lewinsky.

Mother Teresa (2016) oil painting Description

Mother Teresa (2015), which dates from 2015, is a powerful testament to Virtosu's enduring vision and creativity. It holds the viewer with a penetrating gaze that conveys both intensity and a sense of complexity. This image of a defined by title model is indeed painted with a sense of empathy, and the serene beauty characteristic of Virtosu's most accomplished paintings after his release from Draguignan jail in France. This unmatched ability for emotional expression through art renders a remarkably personal depiction. The palette of earthy colours confers a feeling of action, while the centrepiece – convey both a sense of solitude and infinite possibility.

The painting depicts the figure of Mother Teresa, an Albanian Roman Catholic nun, founder of the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata (1950), in a semi-abstract and geometric style. Mother Teresa, portrayed in a coded imaginative blur. Mother Teresa, who ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned and dying of Kolkata for over 45 years, appeared in the exclusive Virtosu's later creations. In this instance, the artist has flatly applied the paint with thick, pasty brushstrokes. Mother Teresa is set against an intriguing background.

Mother Teresa (2015) represents a moment of clarity and growing resolution. Virtosu's features are here rendered with an exuberant chromatic palette and appear fully resolved; this painting exhibits the ebullient self-regard and virtuoso confidence of an artist operating at the very height of his creative faculties.

Mourning Quasimodo (2017) oil painting Description

Exceeding the confines of a vast canvas through its spectacular assault of unrestrained expression and brilliant color, the present piece encapsulates the full force of the artist's abstract vernacular. Mourning Quasimodo by Gheorghe Virtosu is a play in color, contrast, and chaos that creates an abstract form with a just barely perceptible figure of its namesake. Quasimodo is the fictional protagonist—the hunchback—from Victor Hugo's book The Hunchback of Notre Dame. In the novel, Esmeralda, who Quasimodo is deeply in love with, is hanged for a murder she did not commit, and Quasimodo goes to the cemetery and mourns her corpse until he dies of starvation. "I do agree my imagery can be puzzling and other-worldly but my characters — tell much of the world of which they are part of. The world of complexity and variable motivations in which we all live our lives." - G. Virtosu Quasimodo's twisted form is depicted with almost completely abstract shape, with misshapen appendages jutting out, some of them curved, and some of them with straight lines forming a sharp point. His head is depicted by one of the larger curved appendages, with a large bright yellow dot on it. There is a similarly sized blue dot on the other end of the form, which may depict the head of Esmeralda. However, there is no distinguishable break between Quasimodo and Esmeralda, which may suggest how inseparable and unified they are in their love, despite Quasimodo's physical unattractiveness. Against the blackness which forms the base of this figure are thin shapes in every color and form imaginable, which seem to emanate from the jutting forms of the appendages. The form of Quasimodo (and perhaps Esmerelda's corpse) lies against a mostly grey background that is formed by broad, chaotic brushstrokes of paint. Multiple colors and shades are used within each brushstroke, predominantly greys, blacks, and whites, but other colors, such as blues, yellows, and purples, are also used. They are applied mostly at a diagonal angle (upward to the right) but are not all applied at the same angle, which reflects the disorder and despair in Quasimodo's heart. In terms of the artist, there is an emotional attachment that drives the focus of the artwork. The viewer may reflect upon it and arrive at a completely different interpretation. This is both the wealth and the power of abstract painting; it makes room for subjective interpretations. The scientist means to propose one outcome to a problem, whereas an artist means to give multiple interpretations of an object.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (2015) oil painting Description

The plot of the picture is fabulous and symbolic, while the viewer searches to understands the details of the canvas, we all know the name of the hero. For decades, his image has dominated the landscape of Turkey, his icy-blue eyes staring down from the walls of every school, hospital and government institution. The skill of a painter is often revealed in the strength and confidence of his line (outline), creating and delineating the various shapes in his picture. Each line now is the actual experience with its own innate history. It does not illustrate—it is the sensation of its own realization. The imagery is one of the private or separate indulgences however it depicts an abstract totality of visual perception of a former army general. Ataturk left his mark on the military after repelling the Allied invasion of the Dardanelles and later resisting the Greek, French, and Italian armies. The background of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk by Gheorghe Virtosu, especially at the top and center, become significant activity, and this along with the drift, evokes the sensation that the centerpiece is in intense fire, with protrusions of black as they rise across these surface being symbolic of the turmoil and collapse of the Ottoman Empire. Ataturk led the Turkish War of Independence, which defeated European powers who hoped to invade the crumbling empire. The centerpiece is suspended in space, giving the feeling of a flight, anchoring the painting in the physical world while the forms suggest the encroachment of the spiritual. The depiction has more power in describing the title holder character rather than his physical representation as most of viewers will focus on the bird shaping up on the right side of the centerpiece, translating a feeling of ascension…

oil painting Description

Really, Virtosu's philosophical reflections on the significance of art are complex and frequently turgid, rarely influenced by anyone, his idealism and a theosophical conviction that man is spiritually evolving away from physicality, individuality and the self, and toward "a new culture" where "the human is open to the universal and will tend more and more to unite with it." "I must therefore make a new sort of beauty, the beauty that appears to people in terms of volume, of line, of mass, of weight. Through that beauty one expresses subjective belief... I want to expose the story and not merely the factitious." - G. Virtosu. Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France--was the best soldier of his age and ranks among the most renowned military leaders of all time. The tactics he refined from the Napoleonic Wars heavily influenced European and American armies to the 21st century, so his legacy went beyond strictly military issues. For almost a quarter of a century his influence in politics, law, and military organization and tactics spread across the majority of Europe and parts of Africa and the MidEast. The Napoleonic Code of legislation did a wonderful deal to standardize law across Europe and attracted greater freedom to the peoples of the lands he conquered than they had formerly understood. Yet Napoleon Bonaparte (2015), is a perfect example of Virtosu's reduction of traditional belief, as in Apollinaire's time, a new sort of artistry is stepping into the lead to communicate historical realities, that are intuited if not clearly seen. The sight to insight implies a move from outside realities to inside ones, from imposed dogmatic formulas and creeds to the person's mystical or psyche experience of the all reality source. Purity, nature and Virtosu's democratization of spiritual being and knowledge are salient features of today's religion for the non-religious, and his art serves as its audacious and frequently symbolic language. Some however might imagine that this is a purely accidental state of affairs. The artist belives abstract art has replaced pictorial art for several reasons and the viewer has to advance to the imaginative spiritual depths in confronting canvasses.

The Napoleon's Adviser canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘sculpt’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, he captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of geometric drawing. The title Napoleon's Adviser creates the bridge between his artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the oil painting image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. Gheorghe Virtosu’s Napoleon's Adviser oil painting proves the connection between Objective and Abstract.

Nostradamus (2017) oil painting Description

The Nostradamus oil painting is far more abstract than figurative, to the point where what is obscure to the viewer. The abstract painting shows the phenomenon of Michel de Nostredame life's work as a seer and writer of Les Propheties. There are subtle suggestions of the figurative in the stylised hat seen in many portraits of Nostradamus, but overwhelmingly the artist plays with the ideas of obscurity, openness and the equivocal in his aesthetic here. Fittingly for his subject, the artist has created a canvas of seeming sphinx-like impenetrability. Just as Nostradamus's almanacs of alleged predictions of world-historical events are veiled in a highly allusive and poetic language of alternating dialects, susceptible to varying interpretations, Virtosu's figure in this abstract painting does not offer a transparent meaning. Rather than being a portrait of a man or of his work, this abstract picture would seem to be a portrait of the lasting effect of both, as muted colors and tones purvey a general mood of foreboding. Within this mood there is a meticulous gradation of color, with reds climbing into black and browns; blues, greens, and darks all co-existing in equanimity under the saturnine tone. Yet this contemporary abstract piece is as much about painting as it is about its subject-matter. Abstraction is liable to provoke questions about the epistemological status of art – how its claims to knowledge of the world can be made, given the disjuncture between the visible world and the mechanisms of the genre. In parallel to this and in view of the subject-matter here, the epistemological status of Nostradamus's 942 surviving quatrains is and has been for centuries hotly disputed. His poetic approach could be considered as equally removed from matter-of-fact prose as Gheorghe Virtosu 's abstraction is from figuration in this work. In both cases, the meaning is something to be deciphered through the intellectual effort of the reader or viewer. As the quatrains do not become for that less of a poetic or even perhaps a premonitory monument, the artist's figure has a solidity and real existence as visual artifact despite its lack of figurative referentiality. Further, even, the picture's abstraction lends the figure an independent existence, separated from the reliance of figuration upon its reference to the external world for signification. Hence we see in Virtosu’s Nostradamus oil painting a creative 'epitome', or mirroring of the work of the man, by means of the aesthetic's internalization of the operations in that work on the part of the artist.

Oscar Groening (2016) oil painting Description

Abstract art master, Gheorghe Virtosu in his 2016 Collection of works is exploiting the evocative interrelation between color, motion, and form to create an aesthetic experience that carries a message within. The contemporary artist 's oil painting proves the connection between objective and abstract art. The artist conveys the sense of drama and action in his canvases, through the complex and vibrant painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. Thus, the artist accepts narration as an essential part of his abstract works. The oil painting title creates the bridge between his art and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. Gheorghe Virtosu’s pieces prove the connection between Objective and Abstract. Leonardo da Vinci noted that, if our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. And that purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. Nevertheless, Gheorghe Virtosu doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth, and decay. The artist blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

Palestinian spirit (2016) oil painting Description

The plot of the picture is fabulous and symbolic, while the viewer searches to understands the details of the canvas, we all know the story of people of Palestine. Palestinian civil society, has always shown a brave commitment to the national cause. This can be done only if these common roots and the past are well known, understood, and used to light the future. The future of a region which needs to use the dialogue between the leaders, the intellectuals, the public opinion and the international counterparts to climb the stairs of the evolution towards modernity. A region which has to be externally recognized as a legitimate player in the international political arena. A region which has to be encouraged first of all by the passion, the energy, the awareness and the education of its civil society. Each line now is the actual experience with its own innate history. It does not illustrate—it is the sensation of its own realization. The imagery of Palestinian Spirit by Gheorghe Virtosu is one of the private or separate indulgences however it depicts an abstract totality of visual perception of a spirit of an entire nation. The background of the work, especially at the top, left and bottom, become significant activity, and this along with the drift to the bright right, evokes the sensation that the centerpiece is facing the only light side of the background. The protrusions of dark shades as they rise across these surface being symbolic of the turmoil the Nation is facing. The depiction has more power in describing the spirit rather than the physical representation or traits as most of viewers will focus on decoding the image. In general, Virtosu 's avant garde is much more cerebral than other abstract schools and movements. They need to be deciphered! Treat it like a puzzle and see if you can work out what the artist is aiming at.
