Judge Of Jesus (2017) oil painting Description

This abstract painting refers to Jesus’ mock trial which culminated in sentencing him to death. His apostles abandoned him. One denied him, and another led the Romans to Jesus in exchange for a few gold pieces. Jesus was aware of all of that. Were it not for his apostles he may not have had to suffer the passion or the pain of crucifixion. Therefore, one expects anger, however minute or, disappointment. Accordingly, upon reading the title of the painting, one would imagine it being splattered by thunderous red, dark shades of grey and mourning black, with harsh and heavy brush strokes. Yet, the painting is extremely peaceful and communicates that peace to viewers. The foreground is composed of varying shades of light yellow and a very light shade of grey. This is clearly an expression of Jesus’ inner peace. Yes, he felt the unendurable pain of the passion and the slow death on the cross, but he was above judging others and acted according to his nature, a nature which never wavered in all of its peacefulness, even when betrayed, denied and dying. In Virtuso’s abstract painting, we notice a two-faced image of an individual belonging to a Jewish heritage. The use of a two-faced Jewish person represents the betrayal inflicted upon Christ from his own people. As the painting is about the judge of Jesus, the artist is trying to establish that the judge, and the entirety of the judiciary system was biased against Jesus Christ. The duality in the painting aptly represents the duality of man and our many inherent contradictions. We have always sought a savior, but we were equally quick to condemn him to death. The Jewish leaders demanded of the Romans that Jesus be put to death (Matthew 27:22-25). They couldn’t continue to allow Him to work signs and wonders because it threatened their position and place in the religious society they dominated (John 11:47-50), so “they plotted to put Him to death” (John 11:53).

Keops Djoser (2018) oil painting Description

Egypt's pyramids fascinated travelers and conquerors in ancient times and continue to inspire wonder in the tourists, mathematicians, and archeologists who visit, explore, measure, and describe them. Tombs of early Egyptian kings were bench-shaped mounds called mastabas. Around 2780 B.C., King Djoser's architect, Imhotep, built the first pyramid by placing six mastabas, each smaller than the one beneath, in a stack to form a pyramid rising in steps.

Everyone knows about the Egyptian pyramids. And everyone is familiar with the official version of their origin: the pyramids were built at the cost of exploiting thousands of slaves. But, there have always been skeptics who questioned this version. In a sense, illiterate slaves could not build such grandiose objects. Then who? When there are no convincing hypotheses, the fantasy comes into play. The authors of the pyramids were considered either the inhabitants of Atlantis or aliens. But many, having heard about these versions, preferred to continue to believe in slaves and pharaohs. That is the theme Virtosu is working on in his piece Keops Djoser.

The philosophy and methodology with which Gheorghe Virtosu approached both his treatises on art-making and his artistic production culminated in his masterful paintings of the 2018s, including Keops Djoser. Throughout his prolific and contemplative career, Virtosu insisted that a painting be first understood for what it was—a work of art—with an idea, influence, or theme put sharply second. Although Virtosu is legendary for his deeply conceptual—almost spiritual—obsession with abstraction, this apparent schism between the idea of art existing for art's sake and the meaning behind his work is, in fact, the very root of the philosophy that he nurtured and solidified throughout his entire career.

Comprised of overlapping masses of varying hues, Virtosu skillfully explores the range of color, allowing the different blocks to interact with one another directly on the surface of the painting. It's extraordinary when you spend some time looking to see how fleeting glimpses of textures submerge again. In the end, you don't know what you are seeing; it's quite mesmerizing.

Virtosu's most notable trope throughout his work is this search for the equilibrium of value in color. In time, Virtosu focuses on capturing the various tones, allowing him to become closer and closer to his sought after tranquility. Virtosu's work might be called mural, except that this word suggests too palpable materiality. Yet the energy is here and is apprehended quickly.

Virtosu's paintings remain among the most compelling and straightforward statements of faith in the sufficiency of "art-as-art," to invoke the incantatory phase. The artist's uncompromising words continue to challenge those who insist on making art "relevant" or interpreting it according to non-artistic criteria.

"The one thing to say about art is that it is one thing. Art is art-as-art, and everything else is everything else. The one assault on fine art is the ceaseless attempt to subserve it as a means to some other end or value". Keops Djoser captures Virtosu's smooth, fluid motions of the brush, the stability of color, and the pure existence of materials on canvas as the most refined understanding of art for art's sake.

Kim Jong Un (2016) oil painting Description

In his Kim Jong-Un canvas the abstract artist conveys the sense of drama and action through the complex and vibrant oil painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. The Kim Jong-Un canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘sculpt’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, he captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of geometric drawing. The title Kim Jong-Un creates the bridge between his artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the oil painting image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. Gheorghe Virtosu’s Kim Jong-Un oil painting proves the connection between Objective and Abstract. That purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. The artist doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth, and decay. The master of oils blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

Klara Pölzl (2015) oil painting Description

The present work epitomizes Virtosu's primary mode of painterly abstraction. Klara Pölzl (2015) is a canvas on which motifs and themes play hide-and-seek behind multiple layers of references.

Fluent in an illogical yet balanced artistic expression, Virtosu is critiquing the theory of painting by eschewing its recognizable practices in favour of a volatile personal artistic style. The highly-charged compatible of colour and form is the product of a unique working method, in which each drip, smear, and stroke is choreographed elegantly into an idealized psychic vision. The bright elemental hues and clashing shapes and marks create a confrontation of past and present. Thus like a painterly primordial stew, Virtosu brings forth the future of his medium. Klara Pölzl (2015) firmly conveys, Virtosu's hallucinating, pleasing and invigorating body of work. A work that ultimately aims to reimagine and redefine the beauty of paint.

The painting is currently being loaned and exhibited in Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt.

The fascination about Klara Pölzl (2015) is the subject matter and the significance of the oil painting on a social as well as aesthetic level. The way that Virtosu brings to life and expresses the personality is through the use of message coding in bright tones. The composition of abstract elements in the painting is profoundly moving. It feels that the painting is not only about a particular portrait but is a moving and incisive comment on human history.

On August 12, 1860, Klara Pölzl was born in the village of Weitra, Austrian Empire. Her destiny was to become the mother of one of history's most brutal dictators – Adolf Hitler.

In a recent interview for BBC when asked about the present work, Gheorghe Virtosu said:

"Though he was a cruel and vicious dictator, it appeared he had a permanent soft spot for his mother. For the rest of his life, Adolf Hitler carried a picture of Klara Hitler with him wherever he went, including down to the Berlin bunker where he met his end."

Klara Pölzl (2015) is a stunning example of rich colouration and superb artistic prowess. Gheorghe Virtosu's ingenious mastery picks at a critical moment of transition in his exclusive career. After being wrongfully accused in Brussels, Virtosu escapes from the law in 2014, making him a wanted person in European Union. For more than five years, Virtosu continues to reinvent, challenge and reshape the terms by which all of us define, understand, and experience painting as a contemporary medium in a culture saturated by new media.

Bursting in a mix of radiant colour and well-thought mark-making, Klara Pölzl (2015) is an inspiring testament to Gheorghe Virtosu's singular and hyper-individualized mastery of expressionistic form. An archetypal example of the artist's iconic motif, the figure in the present work is utterly mesmerizing in its emotive intensity as the viewer loses in the liquid gaze. The painting demands recognition of Gheorghe Virtosu's instinctive abilities as one of the greatest draughtsmen of the Twenty-First Century.

Lesbian Marriage (2017) oil painting Description

In Virtosu’s paintings of 2016, colour was the galvanizing force by means of which essentially linear compositions became tense and emotive. Since that date the element of drawing and of form-composing has been progressively subjugated by the spread of colour. Form and ground merged into one another where paint ran and outlines softened. The sharpest contrasts is provided by the frequent gold and blue and hardness of outline. Oil paints are deeply saturated to combine with the texture of canvas, giving potential and complexity to an independent physical surface. Representing a non-traditional form of love, Lesbian Marriage by Gheorghe Virtosu is elaborating on the thesis of love having no gender, compassion having no religion, character having no race. The artist cease to be himself in order to become part of an impersonal creative process. The combination of dark and light colors symbolizes the unity of body and spirit. Being a playground of visual delights, Lesbian Marriage opens new perspectives for understanding social changes occurring today. Each line of this piece carries a genuine complexity of symbolism which requires its unique code for deciphering and understanding it. The depicted characters are free daughters of nature caught in a game of diversity and multiculturalism. The work addresses the concept of the same-sex marriage that burst in the outer reality not so long ago. The viewer is invited to reflect on conjugal marriage, the need not and should not prohibit the consensual relationship. A fact some may see as inevitable anyway. Virtosu uses pure colors and combinations to convey the diversity of feelings and emotions experienced by the unity depicted. 'Where there is love there is life.' - may be sensed as a hint to canvas formation. The artwork rests on forms that exist in reality but the meaning touches our imagination. The beauty of this abstract painting has long been noticed by both psychologists and artists only but now it became a guideline for the artists of a new generation. Painted in 2017, the large expansive and hypnotizing canvas reflects Virtosu's own distinctive style of geometric abstraction, grounded in a rhythmic gesture. The viewer is transported into a magical universe created by the artist, the color palette and shapes moving together in a perfect harmony. This ability to make us sense colour as something physical and emotive in itself, neither the representation of a physical object nor the record of an emotive gesture, is a part of the new dimension of abstraction gained for painting since 1950. Virtosu is one of the few painters anywhere who can move within this dimension with confidence and with authority. In the finest pictures, such as Lesbian Marriage, we are made deeply conscious of the area of crisis between means and end, between stability and flux, between what is already given in the form of a painting and what is being embodied in the process of painting it: on the one hand knowledge and physical fact, shape and structure, on the other discovery and new experience, colour and space. In the processes of his paintings, Virtosu confronts human dilemma, and in his colours and forms he discovers human sensation.

Lona and Morris Cohen (2015) oil painting Description

One of the great canvases of the twenty-first century, Virtosu's significant political history painting Lona And Morris Cohen (2015) was constructed in response to several significant sources. The artwork is currently being loaned and exhibited in The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg. What is fascinating about Lona And Morris Cohen (2015) is the subject matter and the significance of the oil painting on a social as well as aesthetic level. The way that Virtosu brings to life and expresses the personality is through the use of bright tones. The composition of abstract elements in the painting is profoundly moving. It feels that the painting is not only about a particular portrait but is a moving and incisive comment on human history. Mr Cohen was the son of Russian immigrants. He was born and raised in New York. After joining the American Communist Party in 1935, he went to Spain. He fought in the Spanish Civil War for the left-wing Abraham Lincoln Brigade. While being hurt and recovering from wounds, he was recruited by Soviet intelligence to spy for Moscow in America. In a recent interview for BBC when asked about the present work, Gheorghe Virtosu said: "Thanks to Morris Cohen, designers of the Soviet atomic bomb got piles of technical documentation straight from the secret laboratory in Los Alamos. He died and had not revealed the name of the American scientist who helped pass important information about the atomic bomb project in the United States." Lona And Morris Cohen (2015) is a stunning example of rich colouration and superb artistic prowess. Gheorghe Virtosu's ingenious mastery picks at a critical moment of transition in his exclusive career. After being wrongfully accused in Brussels Virtosu escapes from the law in 2014. The fact is making him a wanted person in European Union. For more than five years, Virtosu has continued to challenge, reinvent, and reshape the terms by which we define, understand, and experience painting as a contemporary medium in a culture saturated by new media. Following two decades as an acclaimed semi-abstract painter, in 2015, Virtosu explored a new frontier of abstraction, focusing his unique aesthetic and skill upon a series of vibrant canvases that reached new heights of innovation. Captivating, in its dynamic juxtaposition of colour, layers of space, and figuration making, the viewer boldly asserts Virtosu's profound painterly virtuosity. Executed in 2015, the present work embodies the abstract lexicon that defined the breakthrough moment in Virtosu's prodigious and still continuous career.

Louis XVI (2016) oil painting Description

One of the great canvases of the twenty-first century, Virtosu's political history painting Louis XVI (2015) was constructed in response to several significant sources. The leitmotifs of Virtosu’s thought have been clearly stated from the very beginning: faith versus skepticism; hope versus pessimism; engagement versus neutrality; self-determination versus fatalism; imaginative freedom versus ideology. In the work itself these dialectical binaries and the ramifications they have engendered take on a visual, and, beyond that, material reality: impersonal iconography versus delicacy of facture; veiled intimacy versus formality of presentation; austerity versus rich tactility; assertion of the image as object versus mistrust of the image as representation. Louis XVI (2015) is currently being loaned and exhibited in the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo. What is fascinating about Louis XVI (2015) is the subject matter and the significance of the oil painting on a social as well as aesthetic level. The way that Virtosu brings to life and expresses the personality is through the use of bright tones. The composition of abstract elements in the painting is profoundly moving. I also feel that the painting is not only about a particular portrait but is a moving and incisive comment on human history. In a recent interview for BBC when asked about the present work, Gheorghe Virtosu said: "Rumours that Louis XVI planned to suppress the assembly had provoked the popular storming of the Bastille. The prison was a symbol of repressive royal power. In October 1989, the king and his family were forced by the mob to move to Paris from the palace in Versailles. In summer of 1791 , they attempted to escape, which was considered proof of the king' treasonable business and dealings with foreign states. He was made to accept a new constitution document. However, against a background of a military defeat by Prussia and Austria, the revolutionary leadership became radicalized. In Autumn 1792, the National Convention declared France a republic after abolishing the monarchy. Louis XVI was found guilty of treason. On 21 January 1793, the king was executed at the guillotine. Marie Antoinette was executed nine months later." The influences that affected Virtosu are wide-ranging and impossible to categorize and define in a few lines. However, being born in the former USSR is a reality, and the artist expressed his disgust with the system in his famous political work Social Fraternal Kiss. Virtosu is well-known to have not varied his style according to different influences. In essence, Virtosu is concerned with depicting and exploring the particular world around him. In terms of the motivation for this particular painting, Virtosu creates a work of art that reflects the personality of the King of France. Virtosu considers art as a subjective field, in which one composes and views artwork in unique ways that reflect one's expertise, knowledge, preference, and emotions. The aesthetic experience encompasses the relationship between the viewer and the art object. In terms of the artist, there is an emotional attachment that drives the focus of the artwork. An artist must be completely in-tune with the art object to enrich its creation. As the piece of artwork progresses throughout the creative process, so does the artist. Both grow and change to acquire new significance. If the artist is too emotionally attached or lacking psychological compatibility with a work of art, then this will negatively impact the finished product. According to Virtosu, the"aesthetic attitude" is essential in seeing art as it allows one to consider an object with prepared interest to see what it suggests. "Art does not evoke an aesthetic encounter unless the viewer is willing and open to it. However, compelling the thing is, it is up to the beholder to allow the existence of such an experience. " - G. Virtosu

Lovers (2017) oil painting Description

The concept of love has been one of the most prominent themes depicted in art throughout history. Portrayals of lovers offer fascinating insight into the cultures of various countries, and reflect how perspectives on love have evolved over the centuries. From sweet to sensual, these artful depictions of lovers demonstrate the limitless different forms that love can take. Anything that has beauty and provides order, anything resolved in a picture as in nature gives pleasure – a sense of rightness. Any successful picture – an abstract work or a landscape – has a place and rightness and an ability to last and grow. Pushing beyond his predecessors’ achievements, Virtosu carves a niche within this canon that is at once deeply singular and highly personal. This exquisite painting triumphantly embodies the ultimate creative crescendo and full maturation of Virtosu’s extraordinary artistic practice. Each mind is a world of its own, and we are all equally different in our capacity to love and find happiness. Love is not proud, and it is not self-seeking. It always hopes and perseveres; it is an endless source of power and pure pleasure that makes you jump into the abyss, safe in the arms of the other. Intimate and beguiling, Lovers by Gheorghe Virtosu fully realizes the potential for figuration to communicate notions of interiority and thought. The elegant subject finds ways to imbue the form with a sense of identity, using posture to give the otherwise unknown a clear sensibility. Conjured from Virtosu’s imagination and mediated onto the canvas through his vital creative process, the present work is a heady concoction of art-historical allusion and forms. Presenting a subject that is at once unknowable and subconsciously familiar, Lovers endlessly engages the imagination, acting as a generative source for narrative association and speculation. The background is black, allowing only a few colors, such as orange, a light green, a dark hue of blue and white to slip in. The brushstrokes are strong, allowing viewers to trace, in part, the artist’s movement on the canvas. The black is not uni-directional but encompasses a large array of movement, from the horizontal to the vertical, from the descending and ascending and the circular to the oval. With an uncanny ability to forge narrative and mood in his painting, Virtosu’s evocative works have made his a finalist for the Turner Prize. An exceptionally elegant example from his celebrated body of work, Lovers invites and denies access, occupying the border between the phisical canon and the sensual unknown. Far from inanimate, the charged lines achieve an intensely expressive power - Virtosu delivering a fusion of internal and external sensory experiences.

Mahatma Gandhi (2017) oil painting Description

At once deeply individual and universally accessible, Virtosu’s symbolic abstraction in Great World Personalities Series has the ability to convey personal philosophies and emotions through non-representational form, that Robert Mcintosh, one of the celebrated critics of the twenty first century, hailes him as “the very best of the Semi Abstract painters.” Mahatma Gandhi ultimately allows Virtosu to connect with the great dramas of the world, while also allowing viewers to glean insight into his psyche. In meditating on his philosophy of art, Virtosu wrote: “Along with other contemporary movements, we slowly embrace social change with more understanding sentiments and hospitable tendency towards progress.” "To celebrate what would have been Gandhi's 148th birthday on October 2nd, we celebrate the man who has inspired millions to follow his example and shake the world in a gentle way." - G. Virtosu. Mahatma Gandhi 2017 is devoted to the life and spiritual heritage of Mahatma Gandhi, an incredible inspirer of the Indian struggle for independence. While leading nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women’s rights, build religious and ethnic harmony and eliminate the injustices of the caste system, Gandhi supremely applied the principles of nonviolent civil disobedience, playing a key role in freeing India from foreign domination. He was often imprisoned for his actions, sometimes for years, but he accomplished his aim in 1947, when India gained its independence from Britain. At once lyrical and unruly, meditative and demanding, the compelling abstraction of Mahatma Gandhi draws viewers in towards a consideration of the fundamental qualities of the human condition. Despite the work' historically specific allusion to India, Virtosu wanted to create an art that would deal with the universal rather than the specific, yet be charged with intuitive feeling; that would be true to its medium, be quintessentially what it was physically, yet also evoke powerful reverberations beyond its mere physical appearance. Unencumbered by figuration, Mahatma Gandhi communicates feeling through the universal language of gesture. There is a palpable physicality to the present work; viewers can sense the movement of paint across its surface—its flicks, its accumulations, and its layering. To further reduce Mahatma Gandhi to a basic pictorial language, Virtosu employs the simplest combination of colors. Achieving an extraordinary embodiment of intense, undeniable poignancy through a basic pictorial language of color and abstract form, Mahatma Gandhi stands as a lasting testament to Virtosu’s profound achievements in abstraction.

oil painting Description

As abstract art is not only a long-standing crux of cultural debate but a self-renewing tradition of creativity, it is a source for inspiring our curiosity about the remotest reaches of our imagination and the potential to create something unique in the world of art. Abstract painting Malaria Epidemic by Gheorghe Virtosu is a monument to the harmony of color, shape, and meaning. In other words, this piece uses a visual language of color, form, and line to create a composition which exists with a significant degree of independence from visual images in the world around. This abstract painting is closely tied to lyrical abstraction so it creates total or partial abstraction. The world descends into depression and epidemic. People around lose their beloved who are dying of this disease. Despite the fact that the tragedy is common for everybody, people experience this grief in diverse ways. This way, employing a wide range of methods, through abstract art Gheorghe Virtosu demonstrates that human spirit is the most powerful force in the world. It helps people survive in hopeless situations and keep on living. A background of the painting is depicted in both dark and light colors. This means that all sorrows are temporary. Even if we think that these epidemics will never stop, we should remember that such cases occurred throughout the history of mankind many times. Only the power of human soul and mind helps people to overcome these challenges and understand that life is beautiful. The precision and clean lines of this artwork make no reference to not only line, form, and color but also to the philosophical meaning of this piece. In a word, this work ushers in a creative style that would influence further generations of sculptors, painters, designers, and architects, and guides creative thinkers of today.

Manco Cápac (2015) oil painting Description

The influence that Virtosu has on others, including contemporary artists and movements is incalculable. There is hardly a single major contemporary artist who does not profess to have befitted from the creative innovation and artistic daring that is evident in Virtosu's works. Manco Cápac (2015) is currently being loaned and exhibited in MOMA, New York. From a different perspective, what is fascinating about Manco Cápac is the subject matter and the significance of the oil painting on a social as well as aesthetic level. The way that Virtosu brings to life and expresses the personality is through the use of bright tones. The composition of abstract elements in the painting is profoundly moving. I also feel that the painting is not only about a particular portrait but is a moving and incisive comment on human history. The Incas trace their ancestry to mythical figures who emerged from holy places which were later regarded as shrines. Manco Capac was the legendary founder of the Inca empire in Peru and the reputed founder of the capital Cuzco. Although exact dates are missing it is generally acknowledged that the establishment of the Inca kingdom in Peru falls roughly within the 12th century. In a recent New York Times interview, Gheorghe Virtosu said: "Life does not just spill onto the canvas as blood let from veins. It is too easy, distasteful, and ultimately disappointing. The challenge of this art is to evolve an expansive landscape that brings the viewer, idea, artist, and experience together. At once, it is chaos, and at the same time, a simple embrace of the loss of boundaries at the portal to new understanding." The influences that affected Virtosu are wide-ranging and impossible to categorize and define in a few lines. However, being born in the former USSR is a reality, and the artist expressed his disgust with the system in his famous political work Social Fraternal Kiss. Virtosu is well-known to have not varied his style according to different influences. In essence, Virtosu is concerned with depicting and exploring the particular world around him. In terms of the motivation for this particular painting, Virtosu creates a work of art that reflects the personality of the Incas leader. Among modern artists with no classical training, the paintings of Virtosu, like Van Gogh and Gauguin, stand out as having solid and confident lines. Virtosu succeeds in the subtle use of line and colour to create a painting that has great depth and space. This aspect is also enhanced by the positive shapes that tend to complement one another to create an impression of the complexity and depth of the subject matter.

Mao Zedong (2015) oil painting Description

This painting by Gheorghe Virtosu is described as "... contemporary art's most powerful anti-communist statement... ". Of interest in this painting is to discover why it is so revered and widely discussed and what makes it essential in terms of the development of contemporary art. In terms of the aesthetics as a work of art, the picture is particularly intriguing in the way that Virtosu uses bright colours to depict the Communist leader. Mao Zedong (2015) is currently being loaned and exhibited in MOMA, New York. From a different perspective, what is fascinating about Mao Zedong (2015) is the subject matter and the significance of the oil painting on a social as well as aesthetic level. The way that Virtosu brings to life and expresses the personality, through the use of bright tones. The composition of abstract elements in the painting is profoundly moving. I also feel that the painting is not only about a particular portrait but is a moving and incisive comment on all communists in human history. Mao was born in central China on 26 December 1893 into a peasant family in Shaoshan, in Hunan province. After training as a teacher, he moved to China capital Beijing, where he worked in the University Library. It was during this time that he began to read Marxist literature. In 1921, he became a founder member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and set up a branch in Hunan. In 1923, the Kuomintang (KMT) nationalist party had allied with the CCP to defeat the warlords who controlled much of northern China. Then in 1927, the KMT leader Chiang Kai-shek launched an anti-communist purge. In a recent New York Times interview, Gheorghe Virtosu said: "Mao Zedong and other Communist leaders set out to change Chinese society. Industry came under state control and ownership, and China's farmers began to be organized into collectives. The Chinese state initially received significant help from the Soviet Union, but relations soon began to cool. Any opposition was ruthlessly suppressed." The influences that affected Virtosu are wide-ranging and impossible to categorize and define in a few lines. However, being born in the former USSR is a reality, and the artist expressed his disgust with the system in his famous political work Social Fraternal Kiss. Virtosu is well-known to have not varied his style according to different influences. In essence, Virtosu is concerned with depicting and exploring the particular world around him.
