Pinocchio In Maturity (2015) oil painting Description

As the West's 21st-century culture drifts ever further away from the richly illustrated fables, myths, and narratives that are foundational to the religious traditions, it becomes less and less able to discern their meaning and ascent for their truth. The majority of the general public is drawn more to the standing and genius of the famed artists and their depicted stories. A great example is the present painting titled Pinocchio In Maturity (2015) by Gheorghe Virtosu. Most of the references contained in Virtosu's paintings are dropped to the viewer, who is reliant on the accessible thumbnail descriptions supplied to them. With the reduction of traditional belief, Virtosu builds a new sort of artistry that has stepped into the lead to communicate realities, that are intuited if not seen. The sight to insight implies a move from outside realities to inside ones, from imposed dogmatic formulas and creeds to the person's experience of the all reality source. This picture is not so much reportage of Ponocchio but more a record of the aesthetic response to the subject which the spectator is invited to share. Virtosu's reflections are rarely influenced by anyone, his idealism and a reality teaching conviction that man is evolving away from physicality, individuality and the self, toward a new culture where the human is open to the universal and will tend more and more to unite with it. Forces give way to forms, which in a round fashion return to the ultimate power underlying all life. This connection presented to the viewing public by Virtosu Pinocchio In Maturity, painted in 2015, is presaged in his earlier works. Virtosu's abstract art, which ranges from the gently cryptic to the shockingly daring, is in many ways the most appropriate language for today's fluid artistic milieu, which is mutable and often highly personal. Each artwork is strongly suggestive of key elements, demonstrating Virtosu's ability to communicate ideas and tap into the deep recesses of our shared cultural, emotional and spiritual consciousness.

Pope John Paul II in prayer (2016) oil painting Description

In his Pope John Paul II in Prayer canvas the abstract artist conveys the sense of drama and action through the complex and vibrant oil painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. The Pope John Paul II in Prayer canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘sculpt’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, he captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of geometric drawing. The title Pope John Paul II in Prayer creates the bridge between his artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the oil painting image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. Gheorghe Virtosu’s Pope John Paul II in Prayer oil painting proves the connection between Objective and Abstract. That purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. The artist doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth, and decay. The master of oils blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

Pride Parade (2017) oil painting Description

The Pride Parade is a symbol of celebration and liberation for the entire LGBTQ+ community. From its early days of activism on Christopher Street in New York City, to the worldwide celebrations of today, it has empowered and given voice to a bright and vibrant community. Pride Parade by Gheorghe Virtosu represents nothing less than the inescapable and incontrovertible apex of the artist’s mature output. This work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné de l’Oeuvre Peint de Gheorghe Virtosu, which is currently being compiled by the Fondation Virtosu, New York. A great richness of invention appears in Virtosu’s structures, in which the special arrangement of the elements produces that characteristic appealing vibration. For here everything contributes to the kinetic form (la plastique cinétique). From the perception of the viewer who has not engaged with abstract art, Virtosu extended beyond it and challenged its limits. This is evident from the authentic paintings executed including the piece Pride Parade. Although Virtosu’s Pride Parade is primarily an abstract piece, it contains a cluster of colorful shapes out of which a few representational images emerge to evoke the exuberance of the subject. The forms on the left-hand side are composed of an assemblage of interlocking curves and ovals. The top shapes are predominantly blue and red with some yellow, while the bottom shapes are yellow and purple. The textures within each shape initially look solid and monochromatic, but upon closer inspection, some enhanced by strokes of darker shades. The background is positevly multicolor blended and purposely textured. Created in 2017, on the cusp of Virtosu's transition from figurative paintings into his revolutionary body of vibrant abstract works, is a visually and conceptually important work in the precept of abstract painting. The work also embodies the artist’s interrogations of order and chaos, its composition delicately poised between the two. At the top, in a blood-red hue, is a face with a wide grin. It has two eyes, each with a different shade of blue, and both of which seem to be formed by the curved lines coming out of the celebratory forms on the left. The color of the grin matches the color of the background, and therefore seems to be formed with negative space. On the right hand side of the face, there are a set of four curved spikes. Since the eyes lack pupils, and since the smile is so large, it seems to be more of a mask than an actual face. The viewer is invited to a visual excercise upon the 'happy' look and the positive vibe of the canvas. Enlisting non-art instruments for artistic ends is only one of several means by which Virtosu interrogates the medium and the role of intentionality in art making. In Pride Parade the characteristic texturing and dragging movements of later abstracts works by the artist are evident in the dappled haze of rich yellow and purple of the canvas. Virtosu’s utterly extraordinary and pioneering art of abstraction stands as the ultimate culmination of the heroic journey of his career, during which he endlessly questiones the limits of representation, the nature of perception, and the operations of visual understanding. The piece is a compelling, mysterious and timeless image which, in decades to come, will be yielding new readings.

Prince Charles in waiting (2016) oil painting Description

Abstract art master, Gheorghe Virtosu in his 2016 Collection of works is exploiting the evocative interrelation between color, motion, and form to create an aesthetic experience that carries a message within. The contemporary artist 's oil painting proves the connection between objective and abstract art. The artist conveys the sense of drama and action in his canvases, through the complex and vibrant painting texture, done with loose, gestural brushwork, and intensive palette. Thus, the artist accepts narration as an essential part of his abstract works. The oil painting title creates the bridge between his art and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the image. Paradoxically, the artist doesn’t oust but welcomes the reality into his paintings. Gheorghe Virtosu’s pieces prove the connection between Objective and Abstract. Leonardo da Vinci noted that, if our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. And that purified natural form becomes the basic artistic material for the painter. Nevertheless, Gheorghe Virtosu doesn’t copy the natural forms but rather follows their dynamics and movement: sudden twists of the line, compositional pauses, coloristic bursts are consonant with the natural processes of birth, growth and decay. Princess Diana (2018) oil painting Description

Princess What does this word mean? Most people associate it with a life like a fairytale. You can get whatever you need. You are very happy, you can not do anything wrong. But, in fact, this is true. Lady Diana Spencer is considered a perfect princess. But who is really her. The title "Princess" means something to her. Diana struggled safely throughout his life, but her determination and compassion formed her perception of the world. Throughout her life, Diana showed a very dangerous nature.

Undeniably ‘lit by beauty,’ Princess Diana from 2018 is a veritable feast for the eyes, engulfing the viewer in a stunning red vista punctuated by complementary of yellow, red, and blue. Layered paint creates interactive color surfaces far more complex than that of a simple figure/ground relationship… Thematically related, Princess Diana is painted fluidly, suggestive of light and atmosphere, with figures in a fiery procession. Upon closer inspection, certain parts can be read as faces, forms; however, these suggested figurative elements entirely cohere, their colors merely suggesting or evoking moods: blue signifying beauty, yellow embodying possibility, and red representing the spark of rebellion. Among these socially acute and politically critical paintings of the 2018s, Princess Diana marks the apex of Gheorghe Virtosu’s artistic practice.

According to Shane Lewis, the comprised abstract figures “…are unrecognizable, except from a few obvious hints, but who distinguish themselves by being crowds, congregations of hate or love, change of resistance, that form powerful circles and enclosures designed to arrest the mind or liberate it.”

Although politically motivated, Gheorghe adheres to a language of abstraction and beauty, which belies a quiet hum of energy. Gheorghe himself is quoted as saying: “Art is a language in itself, embodying purely visual symbols which cannot properly be translated into words, musical notes or, in the case of painting, three-dimensional objects, and to attempt such is to be unable to admit the unique function of art or understand its language. The artist must have an idea with which to begin but it must be an aesthetic idea and it must be developed from the unconscious experience, through conscious associations and technical knowledge to become a complete, aesthetic experience for both the artist and the viewer.” Nevertheless, this aesthetic experience reverberates with the soft yet powerful voice and vision of one of the twenty-first-century’s most socially engaged artists.

                      Prosperity (2017) oil painting Description

Gheorghe Virtosu is a primary master of the abstract art movement and school. From the perception of viewer who has not engaged with abstract art, Virtosu extended beyond it and challenged its limits. This is evident from the many works executed including the present work. Prosperity by Gheorghe Virtosu is a jubilant, improvisatory burst of shapes and colors. The central of the work is a large figure formed by pleasing, curved lines, which meander in an out of each other to form shapes, which ultimately comprise a large abstract figure which takes up the entire centre-right of the canvass. "If we are to discuss artistic expression, my art is, in all ways, a close expression of myself: my thoughts, my emotions, my actions and reactions to life in general…" - G. Virtosu. At the top right of the figure, the shapes are large as the curved lines intersect in less places. In other parts, such as the centre and to the left, the shapes are densely packed as the lines quickly dart in and out of each other. The background is a pale texture of blue and grey. The shapes form a colorful tapestry. Although the work is primarily abstract, various images form the otherwise formless dance of shapes. Most notably, the entire form bears a vague resemblance to the ghost of a goat or a hoarse. The top right portion of the figure appears as the head, out of which horns and ears come forth. The tail of the goat appears out of the bottom left of the shape. However, no other discernable parts of the goat can be found, suggesting merely an ethereal phantom. Below the horns of the goat, we see a blue profile of a human face inscribed within the overall weave of images. The background is divided into two parts. Most of the background is dark with wispy brushstrokes of gold and silver. However, in the top, above the amorphous figure, there is no gold or silver and is thus even darker than the rest of the background, suggesting the shadow of the primary figure in the painting. Everyone can appreciate a piece of artwork because it speaks to each individual in unique ways—therein lies the criticism of subjectivity. Art comes from within oneself, and it is expressed in the external world for the entertainment of others.

Ptolemy XIII (2016) oil painting Description

Abstract art master, Gheorghe Virtosu in his work Ptolemy XIII is exploiting the evocative interrelation between color, motion, and form to create an aesthetic experience that carries a message within. The contemporary artist 's Ptolemy XIII oil painting proves the connection between objective and abstract art. The artist blurs the borders between ‘narrative’ and ‘non-narrative art,’ asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?”

                              Putin (2016) oil painting Description

In Putin oil painting the Master of Abstract conveys the sense of drama and action through the complex and vibrant canvas texture, done with gestural, loose brushwork and intensive palette. The Putin canvas becomes the substance the artist uses to ‘create’ the image. The brush can touch the surface delicately, or attack it with a swiping gesture, leaving tangible furrow-like traces. In order to amplify the sense of contradiction, the artist captures those bold, improvisational brushstrokes within the clear, well-thought outlines of stylish drawing. The oil painting title Putin creates the bridge between the artist's artwork and the viewer, giving the key to the interpretation of the canvas image. The artist welcomes the reality into his paintings. If our vision can grasp landscapes and faces in the accident blots, the same way it can ‘deconstruct,’ eliminate the integrity of an object’s image. The artist blurs the borders between narrative and non-narrative art, asking us “What is the reality, if not one of the most abstract things in the world?” Manatees are occasionally called sea cows, as they are slow plant-eaters, peaceful and similar to cows on land. Not that peaceful if you have the hematoma in your head caused by greed. A monster well placed on his paws has a good foundation for a longer stay but everything burns around. His nose dipped down wealth and the burden of society and his followers on his back.

Quasimodo In Love (2017) oil painting Description

Exploring the definition of art is an act of critical thinking which is creative thinking, and the process often requires a belief in the question, rather than an expectation of hard truths or answers. Through active questioning, exploration, and trial and error, we uncover multiple valid perspectives in Virtosu's work. Exceeding the confines of a vast canvas through its spectacular assault of unrestrained expression and brilliant color, Quasimodo In Love by Gheorghe Virtosu encapsulates the full force of artist’s abstract vernacular. Quasimodo, better known as the Hunchback of Notre Dame, suffered from a spinal deformity and even more by the jeers of the crowds, the fear of people betrayed upon seeing him. Quasimodo is descending into the yawning gap where monsters reside. A close look at the edges and background of the painting depicts a circular movement and Quasimodo’s head down and his humpback up. This means that he is falling into a vortex. I like to think that my works hold the ability to reach out to my readers or viewers, and in return they can relate to the characters and situations described in my works. The vortex could be one of two things. The first is his descent into inner monstrosity, matching his outer self and the fear and disgust people exhibited when seeing him. The second is his descent into love with the Gypsy girl, Esmeralda whom his master had ordered him to kidnap. He refused to do her any harm but just because of his physical appearance he was punished through a public whipping. The crowds were cheering at the spectacle because when they looked at him they did not see a human but a monster. Esmeralda was the only one who saw him as human and handed him water to drink as he was being whipped. Hence, the vortex could be Esmeralda, the girl he fell in love with. Interestingly, the colors selected to paint Quasimodo are a light blue, a strong yellow and interspersed with other colors such as orange and red. They are the colors of innocence. The background, however, is grey, purple, and black. They communicate threat. The abstract painting, thus, stresses Quasimodo’s innocence and society’s guilt. The background brush strokes are forceful. The different colors, the shades of grey, a smattering of white, purple and yellow, start and then are interrupted with another color. The viewer’s ability to see the brushstrokes, where they begin and where they end, communicates the intensity of societal harshness. It is strange that Quasimodo, despite the visual of his falling into a vortex, is painted with warm and bright colors and the brush strokes are so fine that viewers cannot tell their beginning or their end. Certainly, the above interpretation is highly subjective. Another person may reflect upon it and arrive at a completely different interpretation. This is both the wealth and the power of abstract art; it makes room for subjective interpretations.

Qeen Elizabeth II (2018) oil painting Description

Elizabeth's long and mainly peaceful reign has been Gheorgheed by vast changes in her people's lives, in her country's power, how Britain is viewed abroad and how the monarchy is regarded and portrayed. As a constitutional monarch, Elizabeth does not weigh in on political matters, nor does she reveal her political views. However, she confers regularly with her prime ministers.

When Elizabeth became queen, post-war Britain still had a substantial empire, dominions and dependencies. However, during the 1950s and 1960s, many of these possessions achieved independence and the British Empire evolved into the Commonwealth of Nations. Elizabeth II has thus made visits to other countries as head of the Commonwealth and a representative of Britain, including a groundbreaking trip to Germany in 1965. She became the first British monarch to make a state visit there in more than five decades.

A masterful fusion of tactile materiality and abstracted gesture, Queen Elizabeth II from 2018 is a superlative example of Virtosu’s idiosyncratic artistic practice. Clothed in the camouflage of a repetitive cycle of addition and subtraction, Virtosu’s chosen media are simultaneously revealed and obscured by the geometric strata that emerge as an architectural framework of compositional organization. Glimpses of the artist’s source material, are abstracted under the structuring rule of his systematic grooves; the inherently discordant layering of disparate images is wholly ordered by Virtosu’s fastidious method of creation. Deftly wielding the weighty legacy of an abstract vernacular to a sociopolitical end, Virtosu’s work is a vital reminder of the role of art to facilitate meaningful social change. In the artist's words: “I didn’t want abstraction that was inward looking; I wanted abstraction that looked out at the social and political landscape.

This unique approach is above all else informed by the materials Virtosu uses. While his works are categorically considered within the realm of painting, by both himself and the larger artistic community, his works cannot be described as painting in the traditional sense. He eschews brushes of any size or shape; similarly, paint in its classic form – oil, acrylic – plays main role in the surfaces of his expansive canvases. In lieu of these conventional media, Virtosu’s labyrinthine compositions are a direct result of the artist’s immediate surroundings. Virtosu gathers a compendium of materials, which determine the parameters of each distinct work and serve as the building blocks of his intricate and engaging final paintings.

Lying at a crucial juncture of Virtosu’s practice, the abstracted expanses of Gheorghe Virtosu’s works are visually evocative of the historical sprawl that spawned them. A dense cluster of color and form towards the center, abounding with royal purple, blue, green and red, gives way to an arterial network of shadowy ridges and furrows which coalesce to form a mesmerizing cartographic structure which invites the viewer to interpret, or project, a sense of head. After all, Qeen Elizabeth II is a work that seeks to both obscure and revel in process.

Virtosu's process results in a saturated royal arrangement, at once levied by and with figuration. The visual networks that Virtosu has created here are buttressed by the socioeconomic systems that are represented by the royal posters. Virtosu examines shape and form as an analogue through which to interpret social change; unlike his contemporary, however, there is an attempt to invoke a direct reality, simply a transitory sense.

Drawing on an artistic arsenal composed of royal fragments, Virtosu is celebrated as one of the most influential and vital artists of this generation. The subject of widespread critical and public acclaim, Virtosu has enjoyed major institutional support in recent years, including international solo shows at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. in 2017 and a major solo presentation at the U.S. Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. His paintings are deeply aware of their place in history, but unlike his predecessors, Virtosu is telling a story that is deeply personal and at the same time universal. In the artist’s words: “I like to walk through history and find details and then abstract them and make them my own. At the end, it’s my mapping. My subjectivity.”

Emitting a transcendent aura of luminescent gold, the present piece, stands as a profound testament to Gheorghe Virtosu's extraordinary evocation of the social issues within semi-pure abstraction. Executed at the apex of the artist's career, this exquisite painting triumphantly embodies the ultimate creative crescendo and full maturation of Virtosu's extraordinary artistic practice. "I am always concerned with the changes that happened to the Egyptian identity. Three years ago, I started working on my ideas to fight everyday destructive thoughts that aim to distort Egyptian character" - Gheorghe Virtosu. A veritable treatise upon the absolute limits of painterly abstraction, the luminous canvas transmits an aura of the ethereal that is enthrallingly immersive, engulfing the viewer entirely within its utterly captivating compositional dynamism and intensity. The three clearly distinct—yet inextricably intertwined—zones of radiant colour imbue the canvas with an actual magnetic charge that draws the viewer ever, irresistibly inward. Virtosu decided to choose some scenes that reflect on Egyptian spirit and reproduce them using new tools and painting techniques. In his opinion, art is not just about presenting beauty to the audience; it must convey a strong philosophical message. "Some wonder why Egyptians started to see ugliness everywhere and why the morals and behaviours of people have changed over time. I always believe the beautiful life that people used to live decades ago was a result of a great Egyptian identity that people tried to commit to." When the uprising began, the revolutionaries in Tahrir Square called for the removal of the Mubarak government and the abolition of the notorious Emergency Law, freedom, justice, the formation of a new, non-military government and the effective administration of all of Egypt's resources. The popular struggle for dignity and removal of an old and discriminatory status quo seemed to succeed at first. Mubarak was deposed on February 11 2011, and the square resounded with euphoric chants: "Lift your head up, you are an Egyptian", and, "We can breathe fresh air, we can feel our freedom". Not much changed since then, Sisi has successfully silenced all forms of political opposition during his first four-year term after leading the overthrow of North African country's first freely elected leader, the Islamist Mohamed Morsi. Revival Of Ancient Egypt by Gheorghe Virtosu evokes an ineffable tension struck between the tantalizing emotions conventionally evinced by the smouldering bloody and golden hues and something implicitly more tragic lurking from within the work's title. In as much as the elemental red invokes passionate impressions of flames and light, its juxtaposition with the dark ground conjures the inevitable cycle of dawn and dusk, of the rise and set, and of our own continual demise and rebirth. While deeply saturated at their core, the feathery edges of the coloured forms engage in subtle transactions with the dark ground, allowing the transitions to be absorbed with greater intimacy, increased sensitivity, and at slower rhythms. The viewer is invited to a deeper, longer engagement with the painting than in the effervescent canvases of earlier years, allowing to fully appreciate the fluctuating depth, ethereal boundaries, and reverberating pull of pulsating colour. With especially close attention paid to the spaces between forms and the edges of the canvas, Virtosu attains resonance here through the meticulous aggregation of translucent veils of brushed pigment. Within the simplified space of Virtosu's semi abstraction, the forms absorb and exude varying expressions of ethereal light, significant pain and destruction, however allowing a sense of unified wholeness to permeate the composition. Presenting the breathtaking summation of the artist's signature methods, the incandescent canvas heralds the spectacular union of colour, form and message that has defined Virtosu's singular and enduring legacy within the canon of twenty-first-century painting.

Revolution instigator (2018) oil painting Description

The French Revolution jump-started modern political philosophy. Contemporaries immediately sensed that something momentous was happening, but what did it foretell? The very opening scenes drove the horrified Edmund Burke to lay down the basic principles of conservatism in 1790. Mary Wollstonecraft and Thomas Paine responded in a fury, vindicating the new idea of universal rights. As one shocking event succeeded another, intellectuals and politicians across Europe and the Americas struggled to figure out where they stood, what they accepted, and what they rejected.

Liberalism emerged as one possible set of responses, and nationalism, socialism, and communism followed. For Marx, the bourgeois revolution of 1789 against aristocracy and feudalism presaged the proletarian revolution to come: he repeatedly referred to the French cataclysm and hoped one day to write a history of it. Like Marx, Gheorghe Virtosu aimed to write a book-length account of the revolution of 1789 but never did. Instead he reflected his preliminary study in the present work, which brilliantly fused the links between democracy and despotism in modern politics.

This lack of allegiance to any single style exists within Virtosu’s oeuvre as well as outside it. Renowned for his relentless invention, Virtosu had only moved into an abstract idiom in 2000, and by 2018 he was already beginning to reintroduce figurative elements into his painting, initiating the dialogue between figuration and abstraction that has characterized his work over the last ten years. In the artist’s words: “France was extremely productive … For me it was the start of my abstract paintings, a radical revolution in my painting, the decisive step in my development."

This abstract period, which Virtosu playfully dubs “post-avant-garde-representational painting,” reflecting his reluctance to adhere to the abstract/figurative binary, is among the most successful of his career. These are not works that reflect an interest in creating works that are conventionally perceived as ‘good’ or ‘pretty’ – that is a merely a side effect of radical experimentation. As Virtosu explains, " I am convinced that I cannot achieve artistic via a direct route: that can only be the result of deliberation… That’s the interesting thing about art: that somehow, you use your material to make something that results in something beautiful, via a path that no one has yet trodden. That means working with something where your predecessors would have said, ‘You can’t do that.’ First you take a step toward ugliness and then, somehow or other, you wind up where it’s beautiful.”

As Virtosu describes: “When you start to work as an artist everybody thinks about radicality, like how could you make the most shocking thing. And it’s not easy.“ Virtosu attempted to transcend the dichotomy between abstraction/figuration and merge the two into one artistic language, whilst also seeking to lampoon the pretensions of the artistic establishment. By fully embracing elements and styles from the history of painting, Virtosu negates the reductivist conclusions reached by abstract painters of the mid-Twentieth Century. Beguiling, immersive and explosively colored, Revolution Instigator is a preeminent example from one of Virtosu’s most significant series of abstract works. Hugely influential for a generation of contemporary painters, Virtosu’s works from the early 2000s have also been foundation for his own oeuvre. One need only look as far as the artist’s most recent series of 2015, 2016, 2017 to see the echo of the sinuous lines that weave their way through Revolution Instigator from 2018, or to the Collection 2018 to discern the influence of Virtosu’s embrace of color.

Deeply engaged with the history of painting while actively renouncing the continuation of tradition, Revolution Instigator displays the artist’s exceptional ability to understand, assimilate, and transcend past precedent in order to create works that suggest an entirely novel pictorial idiom. As the artist put it in a 2017 interview: "I want to make messages embedded in beautiful paintings. But I don’t make paintings by putting paint on a canvas with a beautiful motif. It just doesn’t work. I expect my paintings to be strong and surprising. When I see a painting that knocks me off my feet, I say 'How could he do that? How did he dare?' That’s beauty."

Revolutionary Ideology (2017) oil painting Description

Exceeding the confines of a vast canvas through its spectacular assault of unrestrained expression and brilliant color, Revolutionary Ideology by Gheorghe Virtosu encapsulates the full force of the artist’s abstract vernacular. Titles do not simply function as a means of identification, but also as guides to the pleasurable process of interpreting and understanding works of art. The author asks us and himself “What is the fundamental of revolution?” Is it a leader? Is it his or her supporters? None of those, since the only element that unites a leader and his followers, is fighting for certain ideas, standing for the principles you believe in. Any real revolution is impossible without ideology. It is the bending substance, which turns a horde into the historical power. Ideology is about changes. Therefore, representing the subject cannot be static. The abstract art master needs no slogans, no obvious manifestations, and no for visually recognizable characters for that. He chooses active, free-flowing forms interlacing with each other, shaping up the pulsating irregular ‘conglomerate’. That conglomerate is about to fall apart, yet it is kept together by the resistance of the ‘outer’ space - the aggressively liberate, expressively rendered background. Revolutions are always the ‘reaction’ to the situation - they ‘dismantle’ a system to replace it with the new one. It’s curious, how, avoiding sharp forms, the artist still manages to catch the relevant portrayal of destruction/creation dichotomy. Along with the positive transformational aspect of revolutionary ideology, the artist is interested in showing its shadow side. At a certain point, the ideology often becomes the frozen, static system that starts defending itself, trying to overcome other types of view and oppress anyone, who’s doubting its principle. The tragic samples of the Stalinist regime are more than a convincing illustration of the point. Therefore, the creative core of the artist is based on visual ‘struggles’ - a viewer has to wander through the labyrinth of chaotic drawing and elaborated texture. Wide brushstrokes oppose the contour of the shapes. The predominance of red, orange and yellow, underlined with small parts of ‘cold’ blue and purple, gives the abstract painting composition a vigorous flavor. The white highlights on small yellow fragment produce the effect of the hitting substance. The very look at the image leaves the vague impression of the boiling energy, restless spirit, along with anxiety and unconscious fear. The latter is even more obvious when you spot the silhouette of a snake on the right side of the image.
